The authors conducted a psychological autopsy study comparing 42 nurses who had died by suicide with 84 living matched controls. The main risk factors for suicide were current psychiatric disorder, personality disorder, comorbidity of disorders, past psychiatric disorder & previous deliberate self harm. Living alone & having relationship problems were also risk factors, while being married & having children appeared to be protective. (2 refs)
