The case of Donna, a nursing home resident, is presented. Donna engaged in seemingly intractable behaviors, including compulsive theft & prostitution. Her history of suicide attempt & ideation is described. After a series of interventions failed to reduce these behaviors, a differential reinforcement of incompatible responding (DRI) procedure was implemented following functional assessment. Treatment resulted in significant increases in recreational program attendance & a concomitant reduction in targeted behaviors. (8 refs)
