This document summarizes the findings of a study by D Weiner et al., regarding the unique treatment needs of young people suffering with co-occurring substance abuse & emotional problems. The researchers found that adolescents in residential treatment with dual diagnosis were significantly more likely than those with only one diagnosis to be at risk for suicide, elopement, & crime or delinquency.
