The present study examined the connection between 5-HT status & self-destructiveness in bulimia nervosa (BN). 40 bulimic women & 21 controls were assessed for: a) history of parasuicidal of self-injurious acts; & b) mood & impulse-regulation problesm. They were also tested for serial prolactin (PRL) & cortisol (CORT) responses in relation to 5-HT. Bulimic women showed blunting of PRL & CORT, which was most remarkable in bulimic women with a history of self-destructiveness. Implications are discussed. (33 refs)
