Suicide and Suicide Attempts in Adolescent-Onset Psychotic Disorders

88 subjects with adolescent-onset psychotic disorders, mainly schizophrenia & affective disorders, were followed up 10 years later, rediagnosed & assessed with the Positive & Negative Symptom Scale, abuse of drugs including nicotine, the Lancashire Quality of Life Profile & occurrence of suicide or suicide attempts. 4 males had died from suicide while another 25% of the subjects had attempted suicide. Factors associated with completed & attempted suicide are identified. (64 refs)
