This article discusses the findings of recent research regarding gender differences in self-esteem among adolescents & young adults. Differences in the rates of depression & suicide in young men and women are discussed. Body image & perception of academic success are considered as indicators of self-esteem levels. The role of gender in the development of self-esteem is examined. (78 refs)
