This article used the psychological autopsy design to identify distinguishing characteristics between males who used hanging, firearms & non-domestic gas to complete suicide. Findings were used to suggest suicide prevention strategies targeted at hanging. Results are discussed in terms of the availability & socio-cultural acceptability of methods. The authors suggest a possible relationship between impulsive traits & method choice. Suggestions for further research are provided. (35 refs)
