A study was conducted of mental health literacy among 3 groups of survey respondents. Subjects were divided into those with major depression & suicidal ideation, those with major depression but without suicidal ideation, & those demonstrating neither major depression nor suicidal ideation. Results indicated that there were few differences between the groups regarding mental health literacy, despite increased professional contact by those with major depression & suicidal ideation. Implications are discussed. (27 refs)
