The objective of this study was to identify further risk factors (other than previous self-harm) for subsequent premature death & suicide in a population of adolescents presenting with self-poisoning. Following a longitudinal cohort study, the authors found that male gender, nonaffective psychotic disorders, & the mental illnesses of childhood confer greater risk for subsequent suicide or premature death in this population.
