A postal survey of all members of the British Intensive Care Society was used to measure stress in intensive care unit doctors. 29% were found to be suffering from distress & 12% from clinical depression. Dissatisfaction with career correlated highly with both distress & depression. 3% of doctors were bothered by suicidal thoughts.
