This study assessed whether caretakers of children & adolescents who attempted suicide by drug overdose received emergency department injury prevention education, & whether this plus medical outcome were associated with subsequent restricted access to means of suicide. It was found that injury prevention education concerning restricted access of suicide means was reported by 14% of caretakers, & was significantly associated with caretakers restricting access. Implications of these findings are discussed. (17 refs)
