A survey of suicide in the four nations in the Indian subcontinent (Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, & Sri Lanka) & among emigrants from these nations in other countries revealed little that was culturally invariant in these groups. The suicide rates & gender ratio varied greatly between the different groups. There was a trend for young females & elderly males to have relatively higher suicide rates. Suggestions are made for future research. (35 refs)
