This letter comments on an article by J B Luoma et al., suggesting that primary care physicians can significantly affect suicide rates for older adults. The author argues that it is not clear from Luoma et al.’s research that primary care physicians actually do have the power to prevent suicide. She suggests that it remains to be determined with further research & understanding of the use of health services before suicide. (6 refs)
