The authors of this article sought to determine the associations of weight-based teasing & body satisfaction, self-esteem, depressive symptoms, & suicidal ideation & suicide attempts using a large sample of adolescents. Teasing about body weight was consistently associated with low body satisfaction, low self-esteem, high depressive symptoms, & thinking about & attempting suicide. Further findings & their implications for adolescent emotional well-being are discussed. (37 refs)
