This study replicated previous findings of high rates of bipolar disorder in patients with panic disorder & found that youths with both panic disorder & bipolar disorder have more severe illness. Results indicate that youths with both panic disorder & bipolar disorder were more likely to have psychotic symptoms & suicidal ideation. The authors note that clinicians must be vigilant for possible comorbid bipolar disorder or risk of pharmacological triggering of a manic or hypomanic episode when treating youths with panic disorder.
