These proceedings investigated explanations for both the production of total amounts of lethal violence & its expression as either homicide or suicide across 48 states in the United States. Theoretical perspectives linking homicide & suicide were reviewed. Results indicated that as poverty increased, the lethal violence rates increased among whites. No significant relationship was found for the black population. Suicide was found to be proportionately much higher among whites than blacks. (38 refs) (SC)
