Hjern A~~Lindblad F~~Vinnerljung
This study aimed to assess mental health disorders & social maladjustment in adolescent & young adult intercountry adoptees in Sweden. Suicide deaths, court sentences, & discharges for psychiatric illness, suicide attempts, & substance abuse were compared between intercountry adoptees & controls. Intercountry adoptees were found to be more likely to die from suicide, attempt suicide, be admitted for a psychiatric disorder, drug abuse, or alcohol abuse, or to commit a crime. These findings are discussed. (31 refs)
