This report explores the challenges facing young people living in rural Australia in terms of their health & well-being & the factors which contribute towards resilience. Structural & cultural challenges to their health are presented. Among these, the high rate of male suicide is identified as linked with the decline of the rural economy & the consequent stress this has placed on the health of rural people. Community intolerance for gay people & stigmas associated with help-seeking behaviors are suggested as reasons for this rate. (57 refs) (SC)
