This literature review investigates the current state of knowledge regarding the neurobiology of suicide & suicidality. Results indicate that there is clear evidence that certain neurobiological systems have a role in the pathophysiology of suicidal behavior. The author asserts that increasing insight into the neurobiological basis of suicidal behavior suggests that serotonin agonists have an important role in the treatment & prevention of suicidal behavior.
