This article describes research in the 1970s & 1980s on people who attempt suicide repeatedly. Evidence indicates that repeaters appear to have a chronic maladaptive lifestyle. Socioeconomic background is presented as a possible explanation for this finding. Treatment focused on socialization is presented as a possible suicide prevention strategy. (5 refs) (SC)
