This article analyzes the apparent relationship between increased suicide rates & decreased institutionalization rates in Australia. The author argues that perhaps the move to deinstitutionalization of people with mental illness may deny them a safe refuge from suicide. Research supporting his argument is presented. (14 refs) (SC)
