The author of this article argues that many theists object to suicide on the ground that God alone is entitled to determine the moment of our death. Many philosophers, he claims, believe that this theistic objection to suicide was decisively refuted by David Hume in his essay “Of Suicide.” He then goes on to argue that this widespread view amongst philosophers is quite mistaken because Hume’s arguments completely fail to refute the theistic objection to suicide.
