This article examines the hesitancy of physicians to discuss suicide with their patients. Statistics are included regarding suicide in the United States. Clinical variables, triggering events, & assessment questions for risk for suicide are presented. The author urges doctors, parents, spouses, family members, friends, & community leaders to be at the forefront of efforts to prevent suicide. (3 refs) (SC)
