Chapter
Anxiety and National Differences (IN: A Physiological Basis for Personality Traits: a new Theory of Personality, by D Lester)
Lester D
This chapter examines a study by Lynn (1971) on anxiety. Lynn’s study used a concept of anxiety to speculate upon & provide evidence for national differences in personality. LynnÕs study used four variables to determine various levels of anxiety: suicide, mental illness, alcoholism, & caloric intake. Lynn found an association between a composite measure of anxiety & other national variables such as accident proneness or hypertension. (13 refs.) (AK)
