The editor considers some definitions of research, mental health, religion, & religiosity. Some studies of the benefits of religion for mental & physical health are reviewed. Nursing aspects are discussed & readers are invited to contribute to this relatively underdeveloped area of knowledge. In a future article the editor will review some links between religion, depression, & suicide. ( 16 refs.)
