World Report on Violence and Death: Summary

This report describes: violence as an universal challenge; the forms & contexts of violence; & what can be done to prevent violence. Suicide is identified as the 13th leading cause of death worldwide. The magnitude of this problem & the dynamics of this phenomenon are discussed. Risk factors for suicide are included, such as substance abuse, a history of physical or sexual abuse in childhood, & social isolation. Several approaches are presented to prevent suicide.
