Assuming that death is indeed the end of us, Phillip Devine has argued that death is ‘logically opaque’ & rational suicide therfore impossible. Devine’s unique & penetrating argument is probed, criticized, & found wanting in this paper, but his insights are duly noted & commended, & a beginning is made on explaining the valuational peculiarity of death.
