In 1999, the Surgeon General’s office determined that suicide is a public health problem & called for the development of a national strategy for suicide prevention. The National Strategy for Suicide Prevention is designed to be a catalyst for social change. It calls for collaboration across a broad spectrum of agencies, institutions, & organizations- from schools to health care associations to the federal government- in addressing the psychological, biological, & social factors involved in suicide & suicide prevention.
