This article describes deliberate self-harm in Sri Lanka. Self-poisoning with agricultural pesticides or natural poisons is identified as the most common method of self-harm. Fatality rates due to ingestion of pesticides may be as high as 60%. Strategies for improved medical treatment & prevention are also included. (18 refs) (SC)
