This chapter addresses the important issues of assessing suicidal risk & planning effective interventions with persons infected with HIV. The first part of the chapter presents an overview of potential suicide & discusses current research on HIV & suicide, risk factors & predictors related to HIV/AIDS, & stages of HIV/AIDS. The last part of the chapter is on crisis intervention & suicide risk assessment & reviews the identification of stressors, the exploration of a client’s intent, the assessment of coping skills, immediate versus long-term risks, & suicide intervention.
