This article reviews suicide in special populations & circumstances examining variables such as psychiatric diagnosis, trauma, physical illness, age, ethnicity, & contagion. It is is concluded that suicide is so complex that current knowledge, though enabling us to predict which special populations & circumstances increase risk, is not sufficient to predict the specific individuals who will attempt or complete suicide.
