This paper will describe the efforts in establishing the Six Nations Mental Health Services in southwestern Ontario in 1997 & the cumulative clinic utilization data to date. This discussion will focus on the service delivery issues that have become apparent & on the measures taken to overcome some of the barriers that continue to impede Aboriginal individuals from accessing psychiatric services. The paper will also describe the issues involved in establishing collaborative working relationships between the trained mental health professionals & traditional healers in this rural community.
