In this chapter, the initial psychiatric consultations on 4 patients with chronic pain are presented, each approached from a different perspective by expert clinicians. The experts discuss their initial impressions of each patient & outline considerations for further evaluation, treatment, & difficulties that will likely be encountered during the psychiatric treatment of these patients. One of the cases concerns recurrent neuropathic pain in an elderly woman with suicidal thinking. (11 refs.)
