This paper reports on a follow-up study of 118 depressive patients. The follow-up period was 11 years (mean 7.8 years). Three female patients, 2.54% of the sample, completed suicide during the follow-up period. An annual average of 231.5 per 100,000 inhabitants was calculated. This figure is close to 10 times the annual suicide rate over the same period in the district where the patients live & from where they were admitted to hospital. A brief summary of the literature on follow-up studies of depressive patients, including rates of suicide, is provided. (13 refs.)
