The Analysis of Organophosphates Poisoning Cases Treated at the Centre for Acute Poisonings in Lublin Provincial Hospital in 1994-1996

During 1994-1996, 38 patients were hospitalized in the Lublin Provincial Hospital because of organophosphorous pesticide poisonings. In 24 of these cases, the intent was suicidal. 6 of these patients died. Most of the patients were male & most patients were in the 51-60-year age group. The majority of poisoning cases occurred in the evening or at night. A thorough analysis of cases of organophosphate poisonings is called for to generate a datase which will aid diagnosis & treatment, & effective prevention programming. (2 refs.)
