This commission examined the occurrence of aboriginal deaths in custody in Australia. The report includes a discussion of: the individual deaths, the disproportionate numbers of aboriginal people in custody, the importance of history, some consequences of history, reducing the number of aboriginal people in custody, diversion from custody, empowerment & self-determination, the role of broader society, the policy of self-determination, self-determination & non-aboriginal attitudes, the importance of aboriginal organizations, & the elimination of disadvantage & the process of reconciliation. 339 recommendations resulting from the inquiry are also included in this report.
