This paper outlines the role of school personnel in the prevention of youth suicide. The responsibility of schools regarding suicide is discussed in terms of practical efficiency reasons, educational reasons, & social & moral reasons. School response at the levels of prevention, intervention, & postvention is outlined as are the roles of various school personnel including administrators, teachers, psychologists & counsellors, & nurses. The strategic plan for training school personnel is described. The timeline for training & developing resources is set out. (32 refs.)
