This article provides a biography of Major General Sir John William Gordon. Gordon had a successful career with the Royal Engineers in the 1850s. During one campaign he received a serious injury which never properly healed contributing to a decline in his health over the years. The continuous pain from this injury, increasing psychiatric problems, & no provision for counselling or other therapy are believed to have contributed to his eventual suicide.
