The specific number of children & adolescents bereaved by suicide in the USA is unknown. A conservative estimate suggests at least one-third to one-half of the suicides each year affect at least one child. Thus, at least 10-20,000 children & adolescents may be bereaved by suicide each year. This article examines the personal & social needs of suicide survivors & the emotional suffering of child survivors of suicide. Grief-related concerns of children after the suicide of a relative are outlined.
