In this article, Keir discusses an apparent contradiction in the mission of Befrienders International. The conflict arises in a confusion of ends & means. The contradiction is examined in terms of Boldt’s (1989) suggestion that there are two ways of looking at suicide: the rational conception of suicide & the life-enhancement conception of suicide.
