The Parenting Adolescents Quiz – an Innovation in Mental Health Promotions for Parents of Teenagers

This presentation outlined an innovative technique for imparting key skills, knowledge, & attitudes focusing on young people’s mental health to parents & adolescents. A new form of parent education, the Parenting Adolescents Quiz (PAQ), was discussed. The Quiz borrows from the sporting trivia night concept but uses the latest adult-based learning techniques to introduce key teachings on the prevention of adolescent behaviour problems, suggest ways to increase parent/child bonding, & offer tips on reducing intrafamilial conflict. The presentation outlined the rationale for its development & design, & illustrated how the Quiz works to empower parents in the task of promoting adolescent mental health.
