Adolescent Suicidal Behaviour: a General Population Perspective (IN: The International Handbook of Suicide and Attempted Suicide, edited by K Hawton & K van Heeringen)
de Wilde E J
This chapter presents results from studies of suicidal behaviours among non-clinical adolescent samples. It describes epidemiological concerns about rates of self-reported suicidal behaviour, correlates of self-reported suicidal behaviour, & preventive efforts. The risk factors of suicidal adolescents in the community are very similar to those of inpatient or other clinical adolescent samples. This implies many adolescents in the general population may actually be in need of help & that perhaps a more outreaching policy by clinicians may be desirable. (63 refs.)
