152 psychiatric inpatients completed objective & projective measures of interpersonal dependency. Scores were compared to 2 indices of suicidality, number of past suicide attempts & physician judgments of suicidality at admission, derived from patients’ charts. High objective dependency scores were associated with high suicidality scores in women & men, even when level of depression was controlled for statistically. Projective dependency scores were unrelated to both suicidality indices.
