This article gives an overview of the current state of suicide & attempted suicide in Pakistan, in the context of existing religious & legal factors, highlighting the main findings of the few studies carried out in the past 50 years. Both suicide & attempted suicide are criminal offenses in Pakistan. Researchers in Islamic countries are encouraged to conduct further research in this important yet neglected public-health problem.
