This study explored the association of suicidal behaviour & childhood sexual abuse in older adults. Participants were women age 50+ admitted to inpatient psychiatric units in New York from 1992-1997. Women with childhood sexual abuse histories were more likely to report having made previous suicide attempts than women without such a history. Results suggest that a history of childhood sexual abuse may be a significant risk factor for suicidal ideation & behaviour among older female inpatients.
