Nursing faculty are rarely prepared for the suicide of a student. This article discusses a protocol to be implemented when such an event occurs. It highlights the needs of faculty, fellow students & significant others. The reader is guided through the process of informing the faculty & students about the suicide, conducting support meetings & managing the media. The protocol helps schools prevent disorganization & unneccesay legal jeopardy associated with such a crisis. (9 refs.)
