A community-based longitudinal study investigated whether personality disorders during adolescence increase the risk of Axis I psychiatric disorders & suicidality during early adulthood. 717 youths & their mothers were interviewed in 1975, 1983, 1985-86 & 1991-93. Cluster C personality disorders in adolescence were associated with elevated risk for suicidal ideation or behavior during early adulthood after co-occurring psychiatric disorders & adolescent suicidality were controlled statistically.
