Rates of suicide among male farm operators in Canada are described & compared to those in the general male population. A total of 1457 cases were identified for the years 1971-1987. Age-specific rates of suicide among the farm operators increased over time. After adjustment for age differences, provincial suicide rates among farm operators were generally lower than or equivalent to those in the comparison populations of Canadian males. Implications of the results are discussed. (25 refs.)
