Lester & Yang (1998) examined time-series suicide rates for 30 nations for 1960-1990 & calculated the coefficient of variation of suicide rates for each nation. This study used the employment ratio, the percentage of the population under the age of 15, & the mean suicide rate for each of the 30 nations in a multiple regression to predict the coefficient of variation. Nations with a higher proportion of the population under the age of 15 showed the greatest variation over the 30-year period.
