Standard Protocol for Assessing and Treating Suicidal Behaviors for Patients in Treatment (IN: The Harvard Medical School Guide to Suicide Assessment and Intervention, edited by D G Jacobs)

This chapter describes a general treatment model for the suicidal patient & psychosocial treatment protocols designed specifically to manage & treat the suicidal behaviours of patients in psychotherapy. Dialetical behaviour therapy is discussed in detail. Two protocols are presented in a step-by-step format. The first addresses treatment planning with the suicidal patient & the second is for the management of acute suicidal behaviours & crisis intervention. Clinical implications are reviewed.
